Contingent Sounds is an independent publishing platform based in Berlin that aims to facilitate artists’ research and practices in the field of sound.

Our work centers on the socio-political dimensions of listening and the exploration of experimental approaches to theory, design, and publishing. We collaborate with artists who engage with anti-hegemonic perspectives or hold strong social and ecological commitments.

In the spirit of accessibility, we make our publications freely available online, either partially or in full, while offering limited-edition print runs for those who love physical books and can afford them.

 

Contingent Sounds was founded in 2020. The project initially emerged within the framework of the Berlin-based music festival Radical Sounds Latin America.
